Essential Matters
Any golfer wishing to play the Old Course must have available an original Handicap Certificate issued by his or her Home Club; Handicap limits are 24 for Men and 36 for Ladies.
The Old Course is always closed for play on a Sunday, but it is possible to walk the Course in its entirety then.
Summer Tee-times run from 7am.
Tee-time Information
There are three alternative mechanisms to obtain a round on the Old Course.
1. Over 50% of the Rounds played on the Old Course are secured through the Ballot. To enable us to process your Ballot Application – this has to be made the day before each day of play.
- This is a draw of applicant Matches of between two and four golfers Names (+ Home Clubs and Handicaps) ; the results are publicised at 4pm.
- The likelihood of success in the Ballot is in direct relation to the number of applicant Matches; so there are no guarantees either way;
- If you are unsuccessful in the first Ballot, application can be made a second time for a second day - when the same time disciplines apply.
2. We can also arrange "guaranteed" Tee-time packages (no Ballot application is required for these). This includes
- three Rounds of Golf (one of which is at a fixed time on the Old Course), high quality accommodation for three nights (including each morning's breakfast and a dinner).
- As with the Ballot, the Names, Home Clubs and Handicaps of the golfers in the Match must be supplied.
- The cost of the package is pre-paid in advance of arrival in St Andrews, but your golfing programme is also fixed at the time of payment.
- The package must be booked and paid for as a whole.
- For those who commit to staying in St Andrews for a few days, there are a small number of similarly guaranteed times, out with the above full package.
3. The Daily Waiting List is the mechanism used primarily for single golfers. This List also affords opportunity through the whole of each golfing day to members of a group to join an existing Match.
